The Popular School of Arts and Trades Pitesti

Presentation

"The enlarging of the cultural horizon means fulfillment and this would confirm the achievement of man's individuality, his availability for what is good, beautiful and truth. That is why I consider the activity of this institution an act of culture and I hope the spiritual opening of the students to bring, later, an extra within the aesthetic sphere and the mind elevation".

In the heart of the town there is an old building. The calm and the overwhelming silence that you can feel through a direct contact with this building are in contrast with the throbbing life inside of it. Each season of the year brings an intense activity. It is the residence of the Popular School of Arts and Trades, of that school which discovers, capitalizes and gives back the cultural circuit, the most likely exceptional and authentic talents, who would remain in anonymity without the appropriate framework.

It is a strange thing that nowadays, art, as well as artists, more than in other times, are somehow placed within the index in a century in which the Internet and means of communication and information broadcasting are so wide, art remains somewhere far away from the people who should take advantage of it, consume it, because here we are definitely speaking about a spiritual consumption, however, this paradox should be vanquished by artists who are aware of it and of themselves.

The purpose of the Popular School of Arts and Trades in Pitesti is that of conservation, capitalization and transmission of the universal moral and artistic, local and zonal values, as also forming one, by putting at the citizens' disposal an artistic education form at high standards, open to all the social segments, no matter the age, nationality, race, sex, religion or political affiliation, with or without preliminary professional knowledge, giving in this way the possibility of cultivation of values and authenticity of the contemporary popular creation , the development of interpretative art in all the fields of activity and last but not least, within the frame of encouragement of creativity and talent in view of a free development and the population' conformation to the major evolutions within the society.

In more than 50 years of activity, the Popular School of Arts and Trades in Pitesti represented the first step towards a successful artistic career for many important names for the Romanian culture.

Owing to the passionate and fatigueless work of teachers within this school, we discovered and we formed talents and names that regaled the school and the entire cultural-artistic activity at a national level.

Even though it had to face more or less prosperous periods, starting with 1958, the year of the school's foundation, the meaning of this institution grew through the contribution of several factors. The development in optimum conditions of the entire activity within the school was possible starting with 1995 when it began to be financed by the Arges County Council, which gave a special importance to the development of culture in the county, both in the urban and rural area.

From thousands of students who followed the courses of this school, rose hundreds of interpreters, musicians, actors, artists, who spread all over the country and abroad, carrying with them the memory of the beginnings within the school in Arges. During its existence, under the name of the Popular School of Arts and Trades, the institution worked permanently, forming an impressive number of youth whom it gave not only knowledge but also transmitted to them the sense for beauty, harmony and equilibrium, helping them to find fulfillment within the spiritual and professional frame.
