The Popular School of Arts and Trades in Pitesti

History and Tradition

 

 

 

        The Pitesti Art Popular School was founded in 1958 at the suggestion of the Culture and Education Ministry, with external sections in 6 departments.

      Within the course of the years were obtained numerous and important trophies at: the National Festival of classical music and dance "Darclee", at many of the competition-Festival "Crizantema de aur" (the Golden Chrysanthemum) Târgovişte, at the Festivals and the pop music competitions "Laleaua de aur", Pitesti (the Golden Tulip), within the folk music competitions and festivals "Narcisa de aur", Costeşti (the Golden Narcissus), " Floarea de stâncă" , Rucăr (the Rock Flower), the modern and society dance courses, "Cupa de cristal", Bucuresti (the Crystal Cup), "Dansul Florilor" , Piteşti (the Flowers' Dance).

        At the 24th of April 1984 it was organized for the first time in the country a society dance Festival at the recommendation of a group of passionate and ambitious people within the Pitesti Art School, under the supervision of professor Viorel Năstase. Having a great effect on the participants and the public, the first edition of the Society Dance Festival "Dansul Florilor" was followed with success by another 13 editions, of which an International Festival in 1991 with guests from the Moldavian Republic, a national championship in 1992 as well as Romania's Cup in 1997.

        From the multitude of prizes obtained within this festival, we mention: numerous first places, the Great Prize, as well as participations to international competitions in the Moldavian Republic, Edinburgh (Scotland), Denmark. In the spring of 1995, under the direct patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Art Popular School in Pitesti organized the first national exhibition of plastic arts of the art schools. The exhibition had a great success from the very first edition. During the 15 editions, the School of Arts obtained over 70 national prizes.

        In the 90's, the Art School in Pitesti achieved artistic exchanges with bands and interpreters of popular music and within the frame of plastic arts, with professional institutions from the Moldavian Republic and a programme of cultural exchanges with profile institutions in Sofia- Bulgaria.

        The development in optimum conditions of the entire school's activity was possible starting with 1995 when it began to be financed by the Arges County Council, which gave a special importance to the culture development within the county, both in the urban and in the rural areas.

        The unique specific of the Popular School of Arts and Trades is given by the perfect combination achieved by culture and education, by following several objectives:
a) Offering products and cultural services for satisfying the community's cultural needs, in view of increasing the degree of access and participation of the citizens at the cultural life;

b) Conservation, research, protection, transmission, promotion and valorification of the traditional culture and the immaterial cultural patrimony.

c) Permanent education and continuous professional forming of community's interest outside the formal education systems.

        The Popular School of Arts and Trades addresses to all categories of public, the minimum age for registration being 4 years old, without any maximum age limit, having in view one of the life long learning programme's objectives for acceptance and access to examination and courses, criteria which function, as being only talent and the necessary abilities for following the courses of one section or another, being finalized with a diploma that can be used for employment in different fields of activity, a diploma that is valid within the entire Romania's territory, but also abroad.

         Along the time, the school had great teachers, well-known personalities of public and artistic life, musicians, artists, actors, choreographers. Owe to the passionate and tireless works performed by the teachers of this school, within the specialized classes, were discovered and formed talents and names that honored not only the school but also the entire artistic-cultural activities at the national level.

        The courses of this school were followed by students who became personalities of the Romanian culture, like Doina Papp (editor at the Romanian broadcasting television), the painter Sorin Ilfoveanu, Gheorghe Pantelie, Elisabeta Ticuta, Felicia Filip, Ileana Sipoteanu etc. The number of people subscribed at the courses developed within the Art School in Pitesti increased each year, due to the attractive way in which the institution's teachers and employees wanted to develop their activity.

At the end of each study year, promotion exams will be sustained and at graduation the diploma exam will be sustained.
